The person behind Horcos
Meet Paul Brown MSWW
When you contact Horcos, you deal with me, not a call centre, not a rotating cast of case handlers. I'm Paul Brown, a Will writer and Member of the Society of Will Writers, and I run Horcos from right here in Croxley Green.
I spent many years working in public service, retiring early before a serious illness changed the course of my life. During my recovery, I wanted to remain active and continue helping others, so I retrained for a new career. In 2020, I passed the SWW entrance examination and have since been helping individuals and families with their estate planning.
My own experience taught me just how important it is to have the right legal protections in place. Illness can strike without warning, and having a professionally prepared Will and Lasting Powers of Attorney can make an enormous difference to those you leave behind.
As a way of giving something back, and in recognition of the dedication shown by our frontline emergency services, I try wherever possible to support those who spend their lives serving others. It's a small way of expressing my gratitude for the work they do every day.
Most of my work happens at kitchen tables across South Hertfordshire and Middlesex, because talking through your family and your wishes is easier in your own home, with the paperwork spread out and the kettle on. Evenings, weekends, video or phone: whatever fits around your life.

What MSWW membership means for you
Will writing isn't a regulated profession in the UK, which is exactly why choosing a Society of Will Writers member matters. Membership isn't a badge you buy once; it comes with standing obligations:
- A code of practice: professional standards I'm accountable to
- Ongoing training: the law changes, and members are required to keep up
- Professional indemnity insurance: protection behind every document I draft
- Verifiable membership: check my listing on the SWW website, don't just take my word for it
How I work
Plain English, always
Estate planning is full of jargon that serves the industry, not you. I'll explain every choice in ordinary language, and no document gets signed until you understand exactly what it does.
Fixed fees, in writing
You'll have your fee confirmed in writing before any work starts. No hourly rates, no surprises on the invoice, and money-saving packages when you combine services.
Advice, not sales
If a simple Will serves you better than a trust, I'll say so. If your estate needs a specialist tax adviser or solicitor, I'll say that too. I'd rather lose a fee than sell you something you don't need.
At your pace, in your home
These are personal conversations about the people you love. They happen at your kitchen table, at your speed, or by video or phone if that suits you better.
Supporting NHS & Emergency Services workers
Horcos offers preferential rates for NHS staff and Emergency Services workers, a small thank-you to the people who look after all of us. Just mention it when you get in touch.
